Abstract

In historical and political aspects conservatism is an ideological and political doctrine, aimed at preserving historically developed forms of state and society based on the nation's values, religion, government, family and property. But today Russia is going through a difficult transition period. Conservatism is a world view that is undoubtedly wider, deeper and more stable than any ideology. But under various socio-economic and political circumstances, conservatism can turn into something that is usually defined as an ideology. Conservatism as an ideological phenomenon can hardly be briefly defined. Depending on political and historical time period it becomes a source of political programs, social attitudes, and cultural preferences. Conservatism is not just a way to increase vertical power structure, and is not confined to achieving greater concentration of power and state. These circumstances are just means to pursue consolidation domestic policy able to solve urgent social, economic, cultural and legal matters. Being ontologically an opponent to radicalism and further more to revolutions, conservatism reasonably acts as a stabilizing force strengthening sustainable development.
