Impact of Great Khan Chauvinism Criticism on Nation-Building Process in PRC

Abstract
The article deals with the impact of the “Chinese nation” and “Great Khan chauvinism” concepts on the process of nation-building in China after the Xinhai Revolution of 1911. The author points out that since the establishment of the PRC in 1949 Sun Yat-sen’s pro-khan early ideas of were under the unwritten ban. At the same time, due to powerful ideological influence of the Soviet Union China began constructing a “new historical community” where criticism of “Great-Khan chauvinism” by the officials became the keystone of the construction process. It was pointed out that the concept of civil nationalism prevailed over the ethnic nationalism in the CPC’s official rhetoric. The author has come to a conclusion that despite antagonism during the Cold War period the PRC, being the Leninist type state, is subject of similar processes as the Soviet Union including increasing alienation from national policy.
