This article considers the attitude of convicts to religion. Data of the author’s own sociological researches carried out in correctional institutions of the Irkutsk region in 2002–2014 are the basis for the study. Analyzing opinions of the convicts, the author comes to the conclusion of the importance of the role of religion in conditions of isolation from society. The stand of the correctional system’s staff on religion inclusion of convicts is also touched upon in the article.
