Hesychasm as a Subject of S. S. Horujy's Research: Philosophical Methodology and Ascetic Methodology

Abstract
The author analyzes the philosophical works of S. Horujy, on the basis of which the school of synergetic anthropology was formed in the 1990s. This school continued the traditions of Russian religious philosophy. S. Horujy creatively used the methodological tools of phenomenological philosophy in his research. Synergetic anthropology has studied the Hesychast tradition, discovering anthropological concepts in it. A number of aspects of the hesychasm methodology are not specific to Christianity. Let us list these aspects: the somatic conditions of experience associated with the practice of fasting; the struggle against a distracted lifestyle, the special role of attention; the priority of ascetic experience, for which philosophical concepts of “energy” are used. These concepts are transformed in Hesychastic discourse. S. Horujy identified and analyzed some methodologically significant conditions specific for hesychastic asceticism: conditions for keeping the mind and the heart (the experience of hesychia, the experience of Jesus prayer in the heart); conditions of dialogue (the experience of “imageless prayer”); conditions for the prevention and fight against false spirituality (verification of ascetic experience). These philosophical and methodological developments of synergetic anthropology are innovative and nowadays remain scientifically relevant.
