The paper considers active citizenship on the Internet. Today, in the age of digital society, social networks have become the main platforms for active citizens’ participation. Due to the informatization of contemporary reality, activism is introducing new tools for participation like posting, likes, comments, and repost. The authors conducted the study to identify ф social network with the highest level of citizen involvement in the discussion of the posts in the Yaroslavl protest community «Moscow Trash in the Yaroslavl Region». As a result of the analysis of the expert survey the activity rates on the Internet have been identified, as well as weighting for each of them. The event analysis and index analysis helped the authors develop a formalized model for calculating the index of user involvement in the discussion of protest community posts from a regional perspective. The resulting formula reflects the level of citizen involvement in the discussion of «Moscow Trash in the Yaroslavl Region» protest community posts on the social networks «Vkontakte» and «Facebook». The article presents the results of the study. A social network with the highest user involvement has been identified.
