Irkutsk Region: External Migration Dynamics under Economic Crisis

Abstract

The economic crisis which took place at the end of the 2000-s affected directly migration process in the Irkutsk region. It caused a common decline in cross-boundary migration flows and a decrease in number of officially registered foreign workers. But the general trend of using foreign work force has been kept at the same level which proves the strategic, not opportunistic, nature of this phenomenon.
