«To Send where the Sovereign will Specify»: the History of the Russian Political Exile in the Writings of Yu. G. Krizhanich and N. M. Karamzin

Abstract
Some aspects of Yu. G. Krizhanich and N. M. Karamzin studying political exile as manifestations of retaliatory policy of the state towards its opponents are considered. Using the examples from the Russian history of XI–XVII centuries the authors reveal basic forms of application of this punishment emphasizing its selective and estates character, paying attention to scale, duration and geography of forced removal.
