Author(s)
R. A. Zakharkin
Abstract

Communication media influence on the ways members of a society view social reality around them is discussed. The phenomenon of social reality is considered. Various approaches to defining this term are studied, particularly A. Schut's approach, who is a leading representative of the phenomenological research, which was the first to introduce the concept of «social reality». The author presents his definition of social reality as well. The author comes to a conclusion, that the main feature of society members’ perception of social reality is their subjective estimation of this phenomenon. The situation that occurred in Ukraine when the change of social reality perception by the majority of the population became one of bases for dramatic events in this country is considered. The author comes to a conclusion that communication media are one of the basic factors shaping people’s attitude to existing social reality due to the fact that communication media are one of the basic sources of the information about the world around them. The author assumes that one of bases of stability maintenance in a society is unbiased interpretation of the events taking place in a society by communication media.
