Abstract
The article considers the history of the formation, development and work of the Department at the Irkutsk State University. The Department, which staff were engaged in research and teaching of historical and political sciences, has been resrtuctured in certain way since its formation. It's revealed that the teachers depend on the state policy. The authors reviewed a period up to the middle of 1980s.
