Abstract

The article deals with connection between the development of social fanaticism and specific features of shaping and addressing needs of an individual. Higher spiritual needs are highly important for a society in whole since their harmonious development and ready addressing prevents fanatic, extremist, and fundamentalist developments in the worldview and common perception. A comprehensive study of social fanaticism has to take into account a complex of social conditions blocking the development and addressing higher needs and thereby giving rise to fanaticism. Influencing formation of the spiritual needs of individuals a society ultimately cares for its integrity and social stability. Social fanaticism is viewed as compensation for inability to develop and address higher needs of an individual. To cope with it structural changes in both public and personal needs are required.
