Emigration from Russia: Peculiarities of the Modern Wave

Author(s)
S. M. Zakharov
Abstract
The article attempts to identify the distinctive features of emigration from modern Russia, focusing on the causes and consequences of the outflow of citizens from the country. The research employs a historical method to analyze emigration patterns at various stages, alongside discourse analysis to enrich the understanding of the term “emigration.” Additionally, a systematic approach is utilized to consider multiple factors influencing emigration and their interrelations. The purpose of the study is to understand the actual causes and determine the level of emigration sentiments of the Russian population, focusing on young people, as well as to assess the consequences of the departure of citizens for the future of the country. Key contributions of the study include an examination of how the concept of “emigration” has evolved, enhancing comprehension of its meaning and context. The author also presents a systematic categorization of emigration periods from Russia, which aids in grasping this phenomenon. Furthermore, the analysis of diverse sources and expert opinions provides a comprehensive perspective on the current wave of emigration, broadening the scope of existing research in this field. The author concludes that the scientific analysis of contemporary Russian emigration is hindered by the quality of available information, which limits research opportunities and conceptual clarity. Consequently, authorities often struggle to make well-informed decisions, leading to reactive measures that could increase risks in a rapidly changing geopolitical landscape. It is crucial to pay attention to the citizens who have left or are considering leaving, particularly the youth, as they represent vital human capital essential for Russia's development.
