Transformation of the “Russian world” Political Discourse in the First Quarter of the 21st Century

Author(s)
M. A. Pimenova
Abstract
The article examines the transformation of the “Russian world” political discourse which is considered to be a special Russia’s civilizational and transnational project within the country and abroad. The paper aims to study the dynamics of its change in the first quarter of the 21st century. Methodological frames include qualitative and quantitative content analysis, elements of discourse analysis, as we study publicly available materials related to the activities of the President of Russia, political and public elites, published on their official website “Kremlin.ru”. The author draws the conclusion that the discourse about the “Russian world” goes through three stages: humanitarian (2007–2013), patriotic (2014–2021) and consolidation-confrontational one (since 2022), which is reflected in the substantive understanding of its content. The paper structures and visualizes the relevant version of “Russian World” using its constituent elements – Russian language and culture, Orthodoxy, values, patriotism, integration and identity.
