Abstract
Using the ethnographic method of anthropology, this article presents the characteristics of social transformations in Russia based on field research data in a separate village of the Central Chernozem region of Russia. In the course of social transformations since the 1980s, there has been a revival of religious beliefs and traditional culture in Russia, which is manifested in the reconstruction and construction of Orthodox churches. In the villages of the Chernozem region, the process of recreating the Orthodox Church began. Behind the reconstruction of this space of beliefs and the reproduction of traditional culture is the regulation of state/society relations and official/popular relations in a transitional society, the establishment of social order and the realization of social unity, and, consequently, the choice of the way to create and develop a system of state and national identity.
