The article analyzes the communication practices of the central government during the reign of Ivan the Terrible through the prism of the methodology of the “pragmatic situation” and relevant ideas about the technologies of political communication. The author has analyzed the socio-political context, the worldview of Ivan the Terrible as a publicist, the dynamics of political thought in the Russian state during the period under consideration. It is concluded that the central government, using public communication technologies, was able to realize a number of pragmatic political objectives related to the legitimization of Russian statehood and the development of a common symbolic language in the context of forming a unified political system.
