State Ideology of Modern Russia

Author(s)
L. N. Goncharenko, E. B. Avakova
Abstract

The article explores the process of formation of the modern Russian ideology, its content, main features and the ways of improvement in the conditions of new challenges and concerns facing the Russian society at the turn of the XX –XXI centuries. The process of the development of the state ideology is multifactorial and nationwide in character encompassing the historical path of the country. Based on the analysis of the way the international relations are practiced in the country and having reviewed the current situation, the authors have come to the conclusion that the legal rule of no ideology being established as an official one, enshrined in the Constitution of the Russian Federation and prolonged in historical retrospect, has been found to be untrue; moreover, this norm seems to be unnecessary and impractical for the country striving for ideological protection of its interests. According to the authors, there is a state ideology in the Russian Federation. It’s a complex ideological structure aimed at the implementation of the national idea of Russia being largely integrative in nature. It focuses on achieving national consensus, consolidation of different Russian communities, representatives of different political forces and national elites. The authors proposed their own view on the issue and introduce the term “an integral ideology of social conservatism” to define this kind of ideology.
