The article aims at identifying problems that the de facto states of the post-Soviet space faced with in the process of establishing the electoral system in conditions of non-recognition and partial recognition by the world community. Among the tasks identified are the need to analyze modern types of electoral systems, their advantages and disadvantages. The procedure of legislative and executive elections has been analyzed, as well as the type of electoral system in the Republic of Artsakh, the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, Abkhazia, and South Ossetia. According to the results of the analysis, high electoral activity of the population of the republics in the election of the head of the state has been revealed in comparison with the legislative elections. It was determined that actually the republics were able to choose the most acceptable type of electoral system learning from the experience, which still doesn’t always contribute to democratization of the political system.
