The Formation of Subjectivity in Religious Traditions: the Problem Statement

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to outline the possible field of religious studies associated with the processes of subjectivation in religious traditions. Different religious traditions form different types of culture in mental activity, or different subject profiles. It is important to know how and by what means this process is formed. What happens to a person undergoing religious experience? What is the «mechanism» of the impact of religious experience on the subjective constitution of an individual? It is known that not only interests, values, worldview, social circle, habits, types of reactions, drive, affections change in this situation, but also behavior models. What subjective transformation does an individual recognizing significance of religious experience? And how to describe this process from structural rather than psychological point of view? The article briefly describes the history of the problem, the level of its scientific development, as well as methodological principles and methods of its research.
