Modernity as a Paradigm and Its Development into Reality

Author(s)
Yu. A. Zular
Abstract

The paper attempts to outline Modernity as a system of doctrines, epoch, and mode of civilization existence. Approaches to explain its chronological frameworks, prerequisite and forms are considered. The author identifies and describes basic Modernity premises: reason, rationality, education, progress and positivism. Practice and history of Modernity ideas of different types and forms in various geographical areas are analyzed. Much attention is paid to the study of crisis phenomena in various segments of Modernity phenomenon. They include both ideology crisis occurring on the basis of rationalistic paradigm and revival of old-established paradigms and ideological doctrines as a consequence. The author only mentions them since totality of these problems were dealt with in the previous journal issues. Modern era is shown as a situation in which subjects and objects of a historical process operate. Special attention is paid to modern person’s state of mind and self-consciousness. Modern education standards as a contraposition of the plan conceived by Modernity theory creators are characterized. Erosion of politics and ineffectiveness of political process, its transition from real politics into virtual and paradoxical sphere, are stated. As a result there is boundless dominance of manipulation techniques that replaced agitation and propaganda. Unprecedented mass communication capacities enabled to turn sociums and communities into mass audience and make individuals take part in theatrical performances and shows, who obey unknown stage-managers and script-writers, who, in their turn, stooge for unknown political actors.
