Crimea Issue and the Future of the Russian Federation

Author(s)
E. A. Trofimov
Abstract

The article touches upon the political issues of peaceful Crimea annexation by the Russian Federation. On the assumption of Kosov's precedent, taking into consideration growing democratic tendencies in political system, the author establishes that Crimea "reunification" with the Russian Federation conforms to the international law standards and the frameworks of democratic trends. However, it is confirmed that the Crimea annexation was closely related to the domestic political process mostly aimed at the necessity to strengthen the president's authority. The article concerns three main principal directions of development of the Russian Federation, giving special emphasis on "autocratic-conservative" as the most realistic.
