From Siberia to Mongolia or the Russians as a Minority under Socialist Modernization

Abstract

The article deals with the study of local Russian population of Mongolia during the socialist period. It examines the key stages of the Russian diaspora formation in the Mongolian People’s Republic. Issues of the legal, political and civic status of the migrants are studied. The article is based upon the published memoirs as well as data from the Internet forums dedicated to problems of the Russians in Mongolia. Besides the parish data of the Russian Orthodox Church in Ulan-Bator is used.
