Abstract
The goals and objectives of the Russian politics of promoting the Russian language abroad are being analyzed in the paper, the targeted population groups are identified, the reasonability of wider participation of the regional universities in popularization of the Russian language and Russian literature abroad is being provided rationale for drawing on the example of international activity of Irkutsk State University.
