The article deals with the chronology of the formation of BRICS association, and namely the stages of formation starting from the «RIC» strategic triangle to its extended format «BRICS». Prerequisites of the states’ association establishment are analyzed. The value of this integration of developingleading countries for contemporary international politics is considered. The author concludes that prospects of cooperation in the framework of this project, ambiguous though, are, nevertheless, quite high.
