Abstract
The article defines the current Vatican foreign policy. It also presents its main policy directions and their evaluation with a brief historical excursion, beginning from the mid-20th century. Under Pope Francis the Holy See foreign policy is experiencing a significant growth after the crisis that occurred during the pontificate of Benedict XVI. The article highlights the interdependence between the success of the Vatican's foreign policy and the image of its pontiffs in the world community. Under Pope Francis the relations between the Holy See and Russia have moved to a new level and have become friendly ones, with the Russian side hoping to have the allied ones. The diplomatic skill of Pope Francis may help him address the issue of reducing the tension between the West and Russia and turn their relations from confrontation to a dialogue. It seems to be the most important task of the Vatican foreign policy nowadays, which will contribute to preservation of global peace.
