Основная цель данной работы состоит в том, чтобы показать возможность конструирования новой теоретической модели, которая бы позволила объяснить феномен международной миграции, принимая во внимание политические реалии начала XXI в. Для этого, прежде чем приступить собственно к представлению новой теоретической модели миграционных процессов, автор критически рассматривает основные аналитические подходы, утвердившиеся в изучении миграции в современной науке. В результате данного анализа делается вывод о том, что несмотря на то, что многие из предлагаемых подходов оказываются полезными для понимания определенных аспектов миграционных процессов, отсутствует модель, которая бы позволила анализировать международную миграцию как глобальный процесс и которая бы позволила оценивать миграционную динамику in toto, а не фиксируя внимание на каком-либо одном ее измерении, пусть и наиболее значимом с той или иной дисциплинарной позиции. Автор показывает, что появление подобной модели, во-первых, является необходимым шагом для более полного понимания природы современных миграционных процессов, а, во-вторых, что такая модель может быть сконструирована на основе теории структурного насилия Йохана Галтунга и концепции человеческого развития и безопасности человека.
